If you’re a regular reader of this fine website, you already know about Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. This adaptation of the Japanese tokusatsu show Kamen Rider Ryuki premieres on January 3rd on CW4Kids. As someone who has not seen an Americanized tokusatsu show since the original Power Rangers aired, and as someone who lived through the abortion that was Saban’s Masked Rider, I was curious to see how Kamen Rider Dragon Knight would turn out. I was also curious to see if I can get through an article without making continuous common/kamen puns(the title doesn’t count).

Over 35 years, Shotaro Ishinomori created a manga that became tokusatsu television series called Kamen Rider, which is currently still running. In 1995, America was introduced to Kamen Rider with Saban’s Masked Rider. That series was done very badly as it was poorly edited and did not give Ishinomori’s series justice. After that series failed, it seemed impossible to get a proper Kamen Rider series for the English audience. The Wang brothers have finally brought us a Kamen Rider series that does Ishinomori’s series justice.
