Nintendo sells 1.5 million consoles Black Friday week

Ah, Black Friday. What’s gone from one day of major sales to nearly two weeks (with sites running sales from the Monday before to the Friday after) thanks to the Internet revolution, has usually brought companies back into the black. In a year where Nintendo’s actually not been that profitable on consoles (with the Wii having been out for a few years, and the Nintendo 3DS missing the holidays), Black Friday week was well worth their interest.

Nintendo sold 900,000 of their Nintendo DS console across models, with 600,000 Wiis sold. Both consoles have recently updated or revised models, with Black Friday premiering green and orange DSis and both consoles having Mario 25th Anniversary models revealed. Over the timeframe of November 21st-27th, Reggie Fils-Aime claims that US shoppers bought 9,000 consoles every hour that week.

Next year, will we be seeing the same out of the Nintendo 3DS and any new Wii models?
