Henry Cavill’s “Superman: Man Of Steel” to kneel before Michael Shannon

Batman has The Joker. Captain America has Red Skull. The Fantastic Four have Doctor Doom (although he’s now part of the FF).

Superman balances between human threat Lex Luthor and Kryptonian threat General Zod, and Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man Of Steel has found it’s Zod in Michael Shannon, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Shannon, who recently played a disturbed prohibition-era Federal agent on Boardwalk Empire, was nominated for an Academy Award in Revolutionary Road.

Shannon joins Superman/Clark Kent’s Henry Cavill, Lois Lane’s Amy Adams, Diane Lane’s Ma Kent, and Kevin Costner’s Pa Kent.

General Zod was last seen in the media on Smallville (and will return in before the series finale), played by Callum Blue. Terence Stamp defined the role when he brought it to the masses in the Superman II, who then went on to voice Jor-El on Smallville.
