ThunderCats are on the move…to a new cartoon
ThunderCats are coming back to television with a new cartoon. Revealed on Bandai America’s blog, a new cartoon based on the 1980s animated franchise is being co-developed by Warner Bros. Animated (any DC animated work since the ’90s) and Japanese animation studio Studio4°C (The Animatrix, Gotham Knights, Halo Legends, Detroit Metal City).
The series will be a new take on the story, starting fresh with classic characters like Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and so on and even updating their appearances with “realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.” (I hope they realize Mumm-Ra isn’t a cat.)
In a separate press release on the blog, Bandai America mentions that ThunderCats episodes are set to air on Cartoon Network in 2011. Oh, and Bandai America has the toy rights. (Surprising, right?)
Cool. I hope it turn out well. I remember having some of the Thundercats toys. Snarf was probably my favorite, as he survived in my collection the longest.
