Sure, the fate of Watchmen may be up in the air with the whole FOX/WB thing, but as it stands, the movie still EXISTS, and we’re still interested in every little bit of info. THR has a new preview of the movie, with clips from Zack Snyder, up on their site.
I’m still hoping to see this on 3/6/9, and hopefully it does better than Frank Miller’s recent “movie”.
(Holy crap, a Previews Predictions article. Been forever.)
Turns out those rumors that She-Hulk might be cancelled could be right. With She-Hulk #38 (the last released issue) being the last solicited issue, Marvel’s sent out their New Years card (as seen at the right).
The solicit for #38 reads as follows:
SHE-HULK R.I.P.!
She’s been savage. She’s been sensational. She’s been an avenger. She’s been a lawyer. She’s been a bounty-hunter. But there’s one thing She-Hulk has always been, in all of her many series… cancelled. But it hasn’t stopped her yet! In this oversized final issue, Peter David brings his run on the Jade Giantess to a close… but can Jen use her last remaining pages to save her friends from a truly mammoth threat? Catch her now, before someone turns her red!
Seriously? I love Jen Walters She-Hulk. With the Hulk books now consisting of Hulk, Skaar, and Mighty Avengers, I guess they figured they could revamp the last little hang-on. Still, I hope Jen goes somewhere.
But Thundra’s daughter? I guess I’ll have to pick up those specials with her to judge.
Welcome to the introductory segment of gaijINdebt. Scouring the Interwebs (What? Spider-Man said it) for the best deals, hoping to save you cash. I won’t point out any good deals if I wouldn’t buy them myself, so the sites are reputable at least. Show me a respectable nerd who doesn’t have crippling amounts of debt.
EDITED- Updated to add The Simpsons and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
So, on Christmas Day, I did the responsible family member thing and went out to the movies with my dad. We were split between Frost/Nixon, The Spirit, and Gran Torino, and eventually boiled down to Clint Eastwood most likely being a badass. I walked out, thinking Gran Torino was a great movie, and easily one of the best things I’ve seen in the past few months.
Yet, I also walked out thinking something else: Gran Torino could have been an excellent Batman film, or at least apes enough things from the Batman-verse.
(WARNING: Spoilers for Gran Torino, and, well… Batman stuff)
From Yahoo News, it is sadly reported that actress/singer Eartha Kitt has passed away today. Kitt was most famous for being the third Catwoman on the 60’s Adam West Batman and singing the famous song Christmas song, “Santa Baby”. Kitt also played Yzma on Emperor’s New Groove and its sequel and tv series based off the movie. Her work was always appreciated from actors and directors as Orson Welles has once called her “most exciting woman in the world”. She unfortuanetly suffered from colon cancer.
The Dragonball Evolution trailer has hit the web. No bootleg, but Japanese subs.
I hate to say it, but some of the heavy cg scenes do invoke a little bit of Toriyama, but it’s Blue Dragon-era Toriyama. They do pronounce “Kamehameha” correctly to boot.
… still going to be horrible, and will probably be trounced by Watchmen in it’s second week.
When I was asked to be a contributing writer at Gaijinside, I was originally asked about writing about mecha anime. After all, it was immediately after a panel that myself and fellow Akihabara Renditions co-host / Gaijinside contributor, Richard Hoelsher had put together about the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise at Anime Weeked Atlanta XIV back in September of this year. Don’t get me wrong, I like my giant robot cartoons; but as I was mulling ideas around for mecha articles to write, I began thinking about other titles from a completely un-related genre: sports. I pitched the idea and here we are with a new Gaijinside feature - The Sports Pages.
(Editor’s Note: I read and published out of order, but the introduction works well either way. My bad!)
Judo. It’s a Japanese word known the world over, regardless of boundary, language or nationality, which conjures its own images much like hearing sushi or sayonara. In the world of sports, it is Japan’s earliest contribution to world athletics. What started in the late nineteenth century as safer form for practicing Japanese “unarmed” martial arts became a a sporting event within Japan and quickly around the world thanks to a handful of individuals. What better metaphor is there for the turbulent emotions of a young lady in high school who wants to shop, date and learn the makings of a good housewife and her grandfather’s aspirations of her claiming Olympic and national victories on the mat than the very pushing and pulling required for executing the majority of Judo’s throws? Cross-generational, cross-gender and cross-mat goals charge head-to-head in Yawara!: A Fashionable Judo Girl.
Well, sorta. I’m going to keep this quick and short. The New XBox Experience should be up for you, and with that, you can activate Netflix streaming. While looking through what I could add to my queue (watching Cashback right now, and added Heroes Season 3 for future reference), I found an epic classic:
Nick Fury: Agent Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Yes. The character immortalized by Samuel L. Jackson in the new Marvel movie universe, was first played by another legend. David Hasslehoff.
Add it it your queue, watch it when you’re as ticked at Marvel as Hiro Nakamura is, and love the Hoff.
Additionally, David Hasslehoff is new playable character in Pain. I might have to get that.
Oh, I wish I could claim the creation of that title.
Newsarama has confirmed that DC Comics has announced that the February issues of Birds Of Prey, Nightwing, and Robin will be the final issues of each series. DC has not commented on the reasoning (sales, plot, creative, whatever), but it’s definitely suspicious that three Bat-books are cancelled, coming out of both Final Crisis and Batman R.I.P.
Of course, there are the ever persistent rumors that they could be replaced with Red Robin and Girls Of Gotham. Additionally, solicitations for Batman And The Outsiders Annual #1 suggest that the series is renamed The Outsiders as of issue #15.
