“King Of The Hill” Gets Dethroned

October 31st, 2008 by Chad Bonin

It’s been thirteen years, but King Of The Hill has been cancelled by FOX. I did watch it for a good amount of episodes in the past, but have no concept of what’s going on anymore. I know Bobby’s been, like, 13 for 13 years.

Just remember that FOX would rather put money towards The Cleaveland Show.

Tokusatsu T’day: The True Meaning Of Halloween

October 31st, 2008 by Chad Bonin

(Yes, it’s not a “T’day”, unless you never understood that the articles are only posted on days that start with “T”)

Ah, Halloween: a day of monsters, mischief, and mayhem. I almost forgot this happened around 17 years ago, but you should be reminded of the day Frankenstein’s monster unleashed hell on the Rangers in the middle of Angel Grove.

Why don’t we get crazy awesome monsters anymore? Power Rangers RPM isn’t looking any better.

Maybe next year, we’ll regale you with the tale of the Pumpkin Rapper.

BluRay Review: “Robotech Shadow Chronicles” Gets Lost In Space

October 30th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

The wars of Robotechnolgy rage on! Decades after Rick Hunter hopped in a Vertiech for the first time to fight alien invaders, the Robotech Expeditionary Force finishes their battle with the occupying Invid, only to now have to deal with the fallout and newly evident power gap. Two decades after Robotech changed the face of mecha on TV, The Shadow Chronicles continues where the series left off, unburdened by source footage from Japan. Decades after the series ended, do we need a recap of why we should care what the future is?

In Time For Election Day…

October 29th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

Marvel has released this image, with no other text. I’ll add in my two cents that it looks there could be a dark rain in the background.

If you look at the slate of Marvel books potentially related to this concept, you have a few things in play:

  • The Invincible Iron Man, classified until Secret Invasion #8.
  • Secret Invasion, which had Tony flying off in his shattered and tattered Iron Man armor in an effort to fix it. Iron Man was not around for the final page damage.
  • Iron Man: Director Of S.H.I.E.L.D./War Machine: Weapon Of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Canceled at the end of this arc.
  • War Machine starts with a new #1.
  • Mighty Avengers, which cover leaks show an individual in Iron armor.
  • Young Avengers with both it’s Patriot and former Iron Lad members.
  • Avengers: The Initiative, which had War Machine as a main member.
  • Captain America, which is currently Bucky in his own series.
  • What If? Fallen Son: If Tony died instead of Steve during the fallout from Civil War.

Of course, this could be Marvel being misleading as always, and somehow be part of Ultimatum or something.

Tokusatsu T’day: Toei’s Mightiest Heroes

October 28th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

Ah, the secret origins of a classic Super Sentai. Himitsu Sentai GoRanger started what would become Super Sentai in the 70s, but it officially got that title with Battle Fever J. Toei had already worked with Marvel to produce the live-action Spider-Man series that introduced the concept of fighting a monster both on the ground and then in a giant robot.

Yes, Spider-Man is the reason we have Megazords.

Battle Fever J, the second time Toei had worked with Marvel, features Battle Japan, Battle France, Battle Cossack, Battle Kenya, and Miss America (not the actual Miss America, but a heroine named Miss America) working together to fight the traditional forces of evil.

If things had progressed as planned, it would have been Captain Japan, a Marvel-sanctioned  spinoff/remake.

Marvel never really mentions the fact that they had a hand in creating Power Rangers.

GOG.com’s Open Beta: DRM-Free Classics Are Go!

October 28th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

GOG.com, the DRM-free classic game catalog, has now entered public beta. As games range from $5.99 to $9.99, they’re roughly the price of XBox Live Arcade or Virtual Console titles.

I haven’t had a chance to download any (due to my temporary lack of Windows), but that Earthworm Jim two-pack looks nice. Other notable games include the Fallout series, MDK, and 1NSANE. Yeah, I’ve not heard of the last one.

The site gives a very Apple or Delicious Monster vibe, but I gotta say, if it works like promised, a site for DRM-free games is sorely needed in this day and age. Get some more content providers and we’ll see what happens.

At least do yourself a favor and do not download Earthworm Jim 3D.

TV Review: Hey Hey, We’re “The Monkeys” On Jungle Fury

October 24th, 2008 by Jason Sohiel Asgari

Lily and Theo have a potential relationship happening before this series ends, why can’t any other Rangers in this series be left out? After two Casey centered episodes, Dominic gets to rise on his own and try to prove he can get character development too. We get a lot more Fran time, which I felt she was getting neglected. Also, more Scorch betrayal in this episode as well.

Panel Of The Week: Magical Source, Lantern Force?

October 23rd, 2008 by Chad Bonin

The source? DC Universe Halloween 2008, released this week.

The reason it’s awesome? In Kyle Rayner’s imagination/memory/whatever, he’s wearing a Halloween costume… of the Green Mystic Force Ranger.

It continues the fact (yes, it’s fact) that Kyle Rayner is the best Green Lantern ever.

DVD Review: “Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles” Runs Dry

October 23rd, 2008 by Chad Bonin

Princess Sakura of the Clow Kingdom still lacks her memories of her friends, family, and past. Her childhood friend, Syaoran, along with Wolverine/Piccolo rip-off Kurogane and “could have been a girl” magician Fay, are universe-tripping in an effort to get back her memories, which have been turned into feathers. Syaoran knows it’s all for nought, as she’ll never remember him. Ain’t love a pain?

Bond declines role of Thor

October 21st, 2008 by Scott Laney

There had been rumors floating around the internet that Daniel Craig of the new iteration of James Bond, was offered a role to play as the almighty Thor in the Thor movie that Marvel Studios is making.  It does look like the rumors are true though.

During a ‘Quantum of Solace’ press event, Craig has said that Marvel Studios had approached him about playing the Norse god, but he turned down the role, not because he was not interested, but because he did not think it would be fair for him to play as both the smooth James Bond and as the great Norse god Thor, and that it would be too much of a power trip as well.

That eliminates Daniel Craig as a possibility of Thor, but who else can fill the shoes of The Norse god?
