February 28th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

Random fact of the day:

Alan Napier

DinoThunder Red

Alan Napier was Alfred on the Adam West Batman series.

James Napier was Conner and Eric McKnight in Power Rangers Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder.

Alan is the great-grandfather of James.

Awesome apparently runs in the family.

Tokusatsu T’day: The Horror That Time Forgot

February 26th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

We’re hoping the taste will be washed out of our mouths when Kamen Rider Dragon Knight airs later this year, but wonder why we haven’t gotten any real Masked Rider in America in the past decade?

This is the travesty that still makes Ishinomori roll in his grave. Special bonus feature if you can find the actor who played Mini-Me in a roll.

DVD Review: “Peach Girl” Vol. 4 and 5 Show That A Peachy Show Can Have Pit Characters

February 25th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

It doesn’t matter how hot you are, you’re gonna have a confusing life. The WB taught me this early on, and Peach Girl reaffirms it. Momo may be a great person, nice and attractive, and quick to defend her friends, but her life sucks. She’s with Kairi, but he really loves someone else. She manages to avoid Toji, her ex-boyfriend, which saves her some awkward moments. Even Sae hasn’t been as much of a gossip around her recently. How do you fix this seemingly innocuous situation? Force Kairi to make a decision, give Toji a job where Momo works, and have Sae star in a porno.

… yeah, this all happens daily in Japan.

Previews Predictions: So, how many Skrullverines are there?

February 21st, 2008 by Chad Bonin

Skrull WolverineMarvel has sent out this image, with the tag “Who Do You Trust”.

Wolverine is currently featured in Wolverine, Wolverine Origins, New Avengers, Astonishing X-Men, X-Factor, and Uncanny X-Men. Given the brown in the costume, it seems to imply that at least the Wolverine featured in Origins is a Skrull.

I’m calling it. The current Wolverine Origins title, written and drawn by the people who are starting a new Deadpool book in summer, and currently features Deadpool trying to kill Wolverine due to an unknown benefactor, will end with Deadpool killing Wolverine.

… and Wolverine Skrull-ing out.

To sum up, my theory is Wolverine Origins becomes, or is at least replaced by,  this summer.

Tokusatsu T’day Times Two: Ranger Warriors of 2008

February 21st, 2008 by Chad Bonin

I know, I missed an update on Tuesday. That’s fine and all, because I’m going to roll the planned Tuesday article into today’s article.

Over the past week, the Super Sentai of 2008 and Power Rangers of 2008 premiered on TV Asahi and Toon Disney. Engine Sentai Go-Onger features five racers on the highway of justice, while Power Rangers Jungle Fury has three youths charged with taking down the evil Dai Shi.

Deadlines to mean something again?

February 19th, 2008 by Richard Hoelsher

http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/?column=13

More specifically:

“There’s been a lot of fuss of late about late comics. How they damage publishers, retailers, brands and consumer loyalty. Well, DC are taking a stand and it’s gong to be brutal for some.

Sources close to freelancers inform me that DC Comics has a new in house policy for pencillers. Aside from very specific contracted creators (such as Jim Lee), any penciller contracted to work on a monthly book must deliver complete turnaround of 22 pages of work in four weeks. Not a month, four weeks. If that schedule isn’t maintained, they’ll pull pages and assign them to other creators. And you may run short of future work. A reduction in quality is more acceptable than a reduction in quantity.

Specific examples I’ve been given include the recent issue of “Wonder Woman” was half Dodson and half Ron Randall. Also why Koi Turnball was dropped from “Jack Hawksmoor.” And it has been pointed out that there are already three fill-ins on the new “Legion” schedule.

Creators are also being dropped from exclusive contracts over this new regime. Expect certain publishing vultures to swarm.”

I’m confused. A move that HELPS the comic stores? From one of the big two? This is unheard of!

Hey Marvel, feel free to copy this idea.

Is It Wednesday Yet? Week Of 2/20/8

February 18th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

Mighty Avengers should be fun, outside of Bagley. Cable & Deadpool should be fun, outside of Cable and the fact it’s ending. Hulk should be fun, despite the amount of rage included. Witchblade Takeru should be fun, outside of the series ending.

What should be fun for you?

DS Review: Geometry Wars: Galaxies

February 15th, 2008 by Scott Laney

When the Xbox 360 first came around, there was a nifty little game that came along with it. It was simply called “Geometry Wars”. I loved this game from first play. Going at it all that I could, playing as much as possible. It was a great game. The only bad thing is that while it is a great game, it makes for a better portable game. That, and I didn’t have a 360 to play it on.

I was in a conundrum. That is, until now.

Tokusatsu T’day: Streaming Superhuman Samurais!

February 14th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

It’s always nice when I find tokusatsu news on a Tuesday or Thursday. It makes the articles so easy to write.

DiC launched their own streaming video site, Kewl Cartoons. Why’s this related? Outside of Sonic Underground and Sonic Christmas Blast as just generally interesting, and ignoring the potential stretch I can make to compare the Guyver to Inspector Gadget, two shows lost to time are streaming here.

Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters From Beverly Hills AND Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad.

No idea what these are? Back in the day, people tried to compete with Power Rangers. They adapted Gridman into SSSS, and they also made their own US version of Ultraman in a way with TTAFFBH, with no Japanese base show.

SSSS rocked for the following:Tim Curry As Kilokhan

DVD Review: “Suzuka Vol. 2-4″, or “Pretty Asian Kids With Problems”

February 14th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

Yamato Akitsuki is Aoba High School’s new track star, or would be if he just got serious. Akitsuki is a powerhouse romantic boyfriend, or would be if he just got serious. Akitsuki, Akitsuki, Akitsuki! Proof that women are crazy and men are oblivious comes in the form of Suzuka Asahina’s bipolar opinions of the boy. Probably the only person honest with their feelings is Honoka, the new track team manager, but she’s too bland to be the main interest in an animated love story, right? Once again, Japanese teenagers in high school have much more active lives than, well, Dawson and his creek.
