DS Review: “Advance Wars: Days Of Ruin” Means My Days Are Ruined

January 31st, 2008 by Ben Boerner

Because now all my free time is gone, thanks to Advance Wars: Days of Ruin for the Nintendo DS.  Take everything you ever knew about Advance Wars.  Now put it in a box.  Light the box on fire and wait 20 seconds.  Put the fire out, and what you have left is the crisp, clean core of Advance Wars.  Wash it off, polish it, and now you have Days of Ruin.

Ruin never looked so good.

Problems with Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD?

January 30th, 2008 by Scott Laney

sf2hdkn1.pngIt seems that there might be a problem, the HD remix of Super Street Fighter II Turbo.  While trying to do the entire game in 1080p graphics, but this is proving to be a problem.  The original Street Fighter II was only 250k in memory, but the  new download via XBLA might be hitting the celing at 150 megabytes in memory.  The game’s Director, Dave Sirlin states that, they are trying to stay within the limits, but it is hard to do so with all the original and HD graphics and the original music and the remixed music.  Here is to hoping that Microsoft will forgo the limit to give the gamers something they’ve been wanting for a good while now.

Joe Quesada returns to The Colbert Report

January 29th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

One More DayJust a heads up, but Marvel has announced that Joe Quesada will be on The Colbert Report tonight (are they still pronouncing it with hard “t”s?). No, he’s not there to defend “One More Day” (although Colbert gets props if he brings it up), but to pimp the All-New, All-Different Captain America that’s coming out tomorrow.

CD Review: Ultraklystron’s “Opensource Lyricist” is truth set to rhymes

January 27th, 2008 by Ben Boerner

nerdcover2.jpgI don’t usually review music, at least, so I thought.  Then I realized, I critique the music in games, what’s different?  Well, aside from it not necessarily having to fit a mood, not much.  And thus I dive into Karl Olson’s new CD: “Opensource Lyricist”.

The WoW Alternative

January 26th, 2008 by Ben Boerner

World of Warcraft is the best selling MMORPG of all time. Fact. But what’s the second best? It’s a little game you might have heard of. Guild Wars. While it doesn’t have the 10 million player-base that WoW has, it sports over 3 million (the last official count I could find was 2.5 million back in 2006, but I know personally, as a player, it’s grown since then) players in the US and EU alone.

There’s a lot of debate about which is the better game, though. Honestly? Neither. What? Is Ben crazy? Yes, I am, but hear me out. They’re not the same type of game, so comparing them is, in essence, an effort in futility. But maybe you want something besides WoW? Or maybe WoW is good, but not offering what you want? Or maybe you’re trying to decide which of the two to play? I’m not here to tell you which to play (I play both), but the following list just might help you out.

DVD Review: “To Heart Vol. 4″ Should Not Be Taken To Heart

January 25th, 2008 by Chad Bonin

Hiroyuki, Akari, and Shiho are all regular students attending high school in Japan. Multi HMX-12 is a regular maid robot who’s going to high school for a trial period to learn how to be a better maid robot. Chad is a reviewer, staring at the screen, ridiculously bored by the lack of real progress made in the last three episodes of the series, and which is compounded by the crazy universe the characters live in.
