What do you get when you take a bunch of youngsters with various powers, toss them into a ring, and tell them to battle it out? While, yes, I did just describe my little brother’s last birthday party, I’m refering to Little Fighter 2, a freeware, highly customizable “fighter” in the style of a beat ‘em up. It’s fun. It’s fast. It’s playable 1v1* over TCP/IP. And it’s actually challenging on the higher difficulties. Have some time to kill? It’s a free, fun, small way to pass the time. Just remember - Not all characers are created equally. Some characters are remarkably cheap. You’ve been warned.

*More than 1v1 can play over TCP/IP, but it only connects 1 computer to 1 computer. But up to 4 human players can play on a single computer (I reccomend controllers), so you can effectively have 8 people matches over TCP/IP.
Maybe it is just me. Maybe I’m crazy. Maybe I’m chronically unlucky. But I’ve noticed a trend in a lot of multiplayer games lately. I’ve noticed winning is less and less about skill and understanding of the game - But more, and more, and more on luck, and exploits. Don’t act too surprised now - There is an entire series of games out there that is blatantly based purely on luck - Mario Party. I’ll admit the first game, maybe even the second, had a lot to do with skill. If you schooled the mini games, you were probably going to be the winner. Now, there are so many random events and items, it’s all a matter of dice. The mini-games are simply a distraction, a diversion, from the fact the game is completely random. You have a 5 star lead on your opponent? That doesn’t matter in the least the moment they land on the square that tells you to exchange all your stars. Now you’re behind by 5. Awesome. And never mind the fact you won the most mini-games and got the most coins, because the bonus stars it decided to give out this time were most ? spaces landed on, and who rolled the most 10’s. Ok, yeah, that’s fair. And don’t even get me started on so called “Team” play.
America and Japan aren’t the only countries to air tokusatsu. Even though most tokusatsu is created in Japan, America’s done a few… and Korea? On top of dubbing Super Sentai into Power Rangers (more on that later), they made their own short series.
Yes, they’re late this week. Some holiday delayed shipping, which means that you probably won’t be picking up stuff until Friday. I ran by Comic Books ETC. earlier today to pay for my preorder, and bought some Drawer Boxes, as part of my… well… 2006 goal of organizing my comics. Whatever, I have Megaman-Zot reboxed and reorganized now.
Diamond Comics has the full list of what’s coming out, but hit the jump for my interests.
If you went to all the staff here at Gaijinside, people would tell you it is no secret that fellow writer Scott, and myself, will buy just about anything with the words “Dragon Quest” on it. Now, it’s no contest that Scott is a more “hardcore” fan of the series than myself, but when I saw Rocket Slime, part of the Dragon Quest Heroes series, for under $20 at my local Gamestop… I had to have it. I have not been disappointed in the least.
While I am grateful for anything that anyone gets me, I don’t expect any gifts from anyone, yet people insist on getting me stuff anyways…those bastards.
Anywhoo, here is what I have scored this holiday season:
WoW - Burning Crusade (Ben)
Sinestro Corps War parts 5-11 + Epilogue (Chad)
Super Mario Galaxy
Sin and Punishment for the Virtual Console
Pentium 4 processor for my computer in the works
Gaiaonline $10 Cash Card (Mercedes =D)
Geometry Wars DS
Futurama - Bender’s Big Score
I made off with a lot more than I ever would have thought. Thanks to everyone who donated all of this stuff me for this festive season.
After logging onto Steam the other day, they were advertising for a lot of their games and such at discounted prices ranging from 10%-50%. That’s a pretty damn good deal, but in some cases, not so much. Portal for $17.99 instead of $19.99 doesn’t seem like too much of a deal to me, but there are the really frugal people out there who would jump on that like white on rice. Check out the steam website for the full list of discounted games for download. I’d buy them, but I already got all of the ones I wanted prior to the sale. If only I would have waited.
Not that many of you CARE, but here’s what I snagged this Christmas
- Super Mario Strikers: Charged (Wii)
- MegaMan StarForce Pegasus (DS)
- Drawn to Life (DS)
- Guitar Hero 3 (Wii)
- Warcraft Trading Cards
- Super C for the Virtual Console (Thanks, Scott!)
- KJ 52 - The Yearbook (Music CD)
- New Computer Chair (I needed one, lol)
- Link and Mario Posters (for muh room).
Technically, Strikers and GH3 are the “entire family’s”… But we all know who is going to log the most time on them. Expect to see my thoughts on Drawn to Life, and Strikers in the near future.
