FUNimation And Atari Rock The Dragon Boat

October 31st, 2007 by Chad Bonin

DBZ CosplayGamespot reports that FUNimation (the license holder for the Dragonball Z franchise) and Atari (not the 2600 guys, but the company, Infogrames, who use the name in a weird “puts the lotion on the skin” kind of situation) are currently in contract disputes regarding the video game license, with Atari having “breached contract,” thereby canceling their contract.

Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is still scheduled for release in USA on 11/13/7 for the PS2 and Wii, and Dragonball Z still miraculously has reruns on Cartoon Network’s Toonami.

Japan Time 10/31/7: Ice Climbers Stage! No Vertical scrolling!

October 31st, 2007 by Scott Laney

Today’s Smash Update is a new stage, specifically, the Ice Climbers stage.  This stage is pretty normal for a stage, except it has a twist, The stage starts out on a mountain top, but after time, the stage starts to break.  What’s this?  The mountain top is sliding downhill?  Look out!  If you aren’t careful, you’ll get crushed by the stage or worse, fall off the wrong side and just completely fall off the side of the stage.  The stage is looking really fun.  The wait continues!  What else will be released tomorrow?  New Items, a new game mode, or even a new character?  Only time will tell.

Get your stakes ready, or sharpen those teeth! It’s time for the Gaia Halloween celebration! This years events are featuring a war between the humans and the Von Helson vampires! First we had zombies, then we had zurg, and now vampires!

This event far beats last years, as users actually have to participate in the event for longer than 5 minutes to get all of the neat items

LucasArts and BioWare team up. Oh the possibilities.

October 30th, 2007 by Scott Laney

Through Kotaku, I came across a nice tidbit of news.  LucasArts and BioWare have teamed up to make a “interactive entertainment product.”  I don’t know if you can get any more vague than that, but LucasArts and BioWare are good at doing that.  Who actually knows what it could be.  KOTOR 3?  a KOTOR MMO? The possibilities are endless at this point in time.  We’ll just have to wait and see what further comes along from the two companies.

Japan Time 10/30/7: Classic Mode makes it return…as if it went anywhere.

October 30th, 2007 by Scott Laney

Good ol’ classic mode. It makes its return to the Smash Brothers games. Yet it didn’t go anywhere in the first place. If you’ve played a Smash Brothers game, you know the routine of the Classic mode. Proceed through a predetermined number of stages clearing them without getting a game over. It doesn’t look like they’ve added anything new to the Classic mode. Just keeping it the way that it has always been. That’s good, but can be kind of a bore if that’s not what you want. Well, at least there is co-op campaign mode now.

Tokusatsu T’day: Castlevania Rider

October 30th, 2007 by Chad Bonin

GAROAh, GARO, or as I like to call it, Castlevania Rider. The release of a Castlevania game on the Virtual Console brought back memories of this dark and horrific(ly awesome) tokusatsu series. Garo is a golden knight setting out to destroy all the demons in the world, or at least, in his region. He accomplishes this by using a girl, once coated in the blood of the Horrors, as a bait.

They made a video game for it in Japan, along with a post-series special, and there are rumblings of it coming out somehow in America. It also has a running appearance by one of my favorite Japanese actors, Mark Musashi (which turns hilarious in the Gaiden special, given that Mark speaks fluent English, yet never talks in his role in the series).

Hit the jump to see an interesting music video, to get an idea of the series on top of the excellent theme song, and see why I consider it the perfect fusion of Kamen Rider and Castlevania. Warning, because it’s mildly NSFW.

Resident Evil CG Movie; Will it be a decent venture?

October 29th, 2007 by Scott Laney

Capcom and Sony are working together on a Resident Evil movie, dubbed Resident Evil: Degeneration.  Whilst the last three Resident Evil movies have been live-action movies, this time around they are going to go for a CG movie.  Will this be a good move by Capcom and Sony, who want to bring one of the top dogs of the gaming world to theaters once again?  Only the audience will be able to decide that one.  While Resident Evil: Extinction will be debuting in theaters in Japan November 3rd, Resident Evil: Degeneration is currently in production for theaters in 2008.
